How is suspense created in the stepfather ?

A man called David who we then find out that he is a murderer. In the first opening scene we get the impression as hes in the bathroom doing what a man usually does "shaving'' but we are suspicious as he dyes his her black and puts in contacts. walks into the kitchen to turn on radio which he plays silent night as this church song referes to the dead bodies in which are his family members.

A false plateau occurs when a cat jumps out on to the old lady, we are relieved as it doesnt appear to be the killer.

A bomb theory is when David meets women at the store as we know that he is a serial killer and they dont. This puts tension on the audience.
